Lynch has a mayor-council form of government. The mayor and four council members are elected for four year terms. The city clerk and the treasurer are appointed positions. Meetings, which are open to the public, are held at the Lynch Library on the second Wednesday of each month.
A 20-25 member volunteer fire department provides fire protection in the community. The fire department provides protection for designated areas outside the city limits and on a mutual aid basis. The fire insurance classification is eight inside and outside the corporate limits.
The city employs one full-time police officer, who also serves as a part-time Boyd County Deputy.
Junefest is held annually in Lynch on the third weekend of June. Along with the
alumni banquet activities provided for adults and children include a parade, fun
run/walk, road rally, and games at the city park.
